European Athletics Indoor Championships
Gothenburg 1st-3rd March 2013

Join us in Sweden...

Gothenburg is Sweden’s second largest city and has a big reputation for hosting major Athletics Championships - Europeans and Worlds, summer and winter.

We invite you to join us for 3 days of competition next March in the superbly modernised venue, the Scandinavium Arena. A vast new commercial area called the 'Market Square' is now incorporated and organisers are proudly proclaiming that, for the first time ever, we will enjoy a championships ‘All UnderOne Roof!’ Nearly 600 athletes from close to 50 countries are expected, together with 20,000 spectators. We can’t wait!

Anticipating that some may wish to include some sight-seeing in such an attractive destination, we have made provision for extended stays either side of the championships. If appropriate, please contact us for more details.

Centresport Travel Ltd, specialist tour operators to athletics events for over 30 years, will be hosting the trip and Graham Botley, tour leader extraordinaire, will be on hand to deal with most requests!

Four-Night Tour Itinerary

The Athletics programme allows very little time for exploring so, unless you take time out from the competition programme, you might consider an extra day on either side of the weekend for orientation or to maximise the experience. If appropriate, please contact us for additional information.

  • Thurs 28th Feb - Fly to Gothenburg from your preferred UK airport and be met on arrival for transfer to hotel.
  • Fri 1st March Morning and Afternoon Athletics.
  • Sat 2nd March Morning and Afternoon Athletics.
  • Sun 3rd March Morning and Afternoon Athletics.
  • Mon 4th March Return flight to UK, or tour extension.

Stadium

The Scandinavium Arena has been substantially renovated for this event and now boasts a new running track, seating for up to 12000 and an expansive 'Market Square' area where, uniquely, the first event (Mens Shot Qualifying) and all medal ceremonies will be staged - outside the main arena. Also in the Market Square are cafes, restaurants and other outlets - All Under One Roof!

This wonderful indoor complex is close the city centre and less than 10 mins walk from our tour HQ hotel.

Alternatively, a tram will take you there even quicker!

Hotels

Our careful research on hotels included close consultation with Gothenburg residents and we are confident our choices are near ideal for our purpose and will give full satisfaction. In this very compact city both are within walking distance of most attractions, particularly the Scandinavium Arena and have tram/bus stops very close by.

Panorama Hotel 3*Superior – Tour HQ

This excellent, modern, superior 3-star hotel is chosen for its proximity to the championship venue and the pedestrian access to city centre. The Panorama Hotel boasts a good restaurant and bar plus on-site spa for those that may need warming up.

Rooms are modern and welcoming, well-equipped with minibar and coffee/tea makers and furnished to a good standard. Management boast one of the best breakfasts in Sweden and wi-fi is free. Some rooms are wheelchair accessible and the hotel is fully non-smoking.

Hotel AVALON 4*S

We have a small allocation at this impressive 4-star hotel for those seeking a little more sophistication and comfort, including Feng Shui inspired rooms and bathrooms. Location is marginally more central, so a little further from the Scandinavium Arena, but with very good restaurant and very well designed, maximising space throughout.

Airport Transfers

These are included in your tour costs. All arrivals at Landvetter Airport will be met and transferred to hotels by bus/taxi/minibus depending on numbers.

Journey time is approx 30 minutes.

Transfers arrangements for departures will be notified in the hotels.

Tour Management

Your tour leaders are Benjamin Woolnough and Graham Botley, with you in Gothenburg for the duration. They will be available at breakfast and every evening in the 'refreshment zone', for consultation and more!

Public Transport

Gothenburg has a modern, fully-integrated public transport system incorporating buses, trams, suburban trains and ferries. For our limited purposes, trams will probably be sufficient.

Climate

This is Scandinavia and it is early March so we should expect wintry weather. However, we will have only very short distances to travel outdoors and it is reliably warm indoors and on public transport.
