Ian Kerr and Graham Botley - Directors of All Sports Travel and Centresport Travel respectively - visited Stockholm in February. The purpose of this visit was to conduct an inspection in preparation for our tour to the European Team Championships. The following is a report of their findings...

Currency

The Swedish monetary unit is the Swedish Crown, abbreviated to SEK. One Swedish Crown is 100 öre.
The current exchange rate is 1.00 GBP = 10.3001 SEK. (March 2011)

Weather

June is probably the best time to visit Stockholm as it enjoys long daylight hours and mild warm daily temperatures.
Average daily temperature is a minimum of 11°C  to a maximum of 21°C. Average monthly rainfall is 45mm.

Airports

Arlanda

This is the best centrally-located airport in Stockholm and our airport of choice for the European Team Championships event. Arlanda is located 35km north of Stockholm city and an approximate 40-minute coach journey from our chosen hotels. Airport/hotel transfers are included in our set tours – If you are travelling into / out off Arlanda away from our set tours, please contact us for a private transfer price.

Skavsta

This airport is located approximately 100km south-east of Stockholm along the E4 & E20 motorways. It is used mainly by Ryanair and other budget carriers. Coaches run frequently and efficiently from Skavsta Airport to the Central bus & rail stations in Stockholm city centre, usually 30 minutes after each arriving flight.

Coach Information - Costs with 'Flygbussarna' are: Adult One Way 139SEK. Adult Return 259SEK. Senior One Way 109SEK. Senior/Youth Return 199SEK. Discounts are available for advance booking tickets through their website www.flygbussarna.se. Journey time is approximately 80 minutes.

Vasteras

Vasteras Airport is located 105km north-west of Stockholm city. Like Skavsta, it is used mainly by Ryanair add other budget carriers. And also like Skavsta, coaches run frequently and efficiently from Skavsta Airport to the Central bus & rail stations in Stockholm City centre, usually 30 mins after each arriving flight.

Stockholm Hotels

After careful consideration, we have confirmed that we will be using two family-owned city centre hotels located opposite each other for ease of tour management.

Both hotels are centrally-located on Luntmakargaten in the heart of Stockholm’s city centre. Both hotels offer a huge range of restaurants and amenities nearby and are also ideally located for the Stockholm Stadium. We took 15-20 minutes to walk the distance. The nearest Metro stop is also less than 150metres away.

Hellsten Hotel (4*)

This charming 78 room 4* Boutique Hotel is located in the heart of Stockholm. Each of the hotel’s rooms boasts satellite TV, free WiFi and wired broadband.

During our inspection trip, we stayed at this fantastic hotel and have nothing but praise for its charming character; it is decorated in a range of unique antiques from Sweden, Asia and Africa. The hotel has a colonial style bar, complimentary coffee machine (the best in Stockholm!) and its delicious, continental-style breakfast is served in its dedicated breakfast room. The hotel also has a sauna and mini gymnasium.

Room upgrades to Superior Rooms and Junior Suites are available; please contact us to discuss.

Rex Hotel (3*)

Located directly opposite the Hellsten Hotel, the Rex Hotel boasts 56 rooms decorated in a traditional Scandinavian design. The rooms are simple, but entirely functional; each room consists of satellite TV, free WiFi and wired broadband.

The hotel has a delightful reception area and a dedicated breakfast room serving a fine selection of continental options. Other facilities -  such as the bar, gymnasium and sauna - are available at the Hellsten hotel, located opposite.

Stockholm Olympic Stadium

Also called the Stadion, the Stockholm Olympic Stadium was designed by architect Torben Grut and opened in 1912, its original use being the venue for the 1912 Olympic Games.

With a total of 83 world records, Stockholm’s Stadium has seen more athletics world records broken than any other stadium in the world.

During our inspection tour we visited the Stockholm stadium to secure the very best available tickets for our travelling supporters. These are located on the home straight finish line. With a fantastic atmosphere, you can rest assured you will be perfectly located for the action.

The Stockholm Stadium is located 1.4km / 15-minute walk away from both city hotels. The nearest Metro Station to the Olympic Stadium is Stadion on the red line.

Metro

Stockholm has a great Metro System for exploring the city; trains are efficient and a cost-effective way of getting around. The nearest stop for the Hellsten & Rex hotels is Radmansgaten, located on the green line - just two stops away from Central Station. A full 24-hour travel card cost us 100SEK.

Tour Extension & Options

If you would like to stay in Stockholm to explore, or would like to take the opportunity to cruise the Baltic Sea, please let us know your preferences and we are happy to assist you with tailored travel arrangements.
